More Week Five Pickups & Updates

Max Hall-the undrafted rookie will make his first start Sunday.  Very good chance he will get most of the remaining starts, although if he struggles Skelton would have to warrant a few.

Brandon Tate-will be playing on the outside more often with Moss gone. Very good speed and Julian Edelman will also see more catches and snaps.  Hernandez is becoming owned in more leagues but Gronkowski also gets a value boost.

Lee Evans-I just picked him up and while he is probably owned in most leagues, he has a great matchup with Jax.

Marshawn Lynch-reunited with former teammate Justin Forsett, Lynch could be in for a split and goalline duties.

James Starks-a good roster stash particularly in deeper leagues, the speedy rookie from Buffalo should get a look when he comes off PUP but hasn’t played since 2008.

Updates

  • Buffalo RB Fred Jackson was named the team’s starting RB.
  • Dallas RB Felix Jones will have his role increased.
  • Philadelphia RB LeSean McCoy was held out of practice today.
  • Indianapolis WR Pierre Garcon is expected to return this week.

Randy Moss Traded to Vikings

Randy can be himself in Minnesota

Patriots wasted little time trading Randy after his 0 catch performance on Monday night.  The trade makes sense for both organizations.

Vikings

The Vikings have sorely missed Sidney Rice’s playmaking skills and deep play ability.  Berrian failed to adequately fill in and the Vikings made a power move by getting on the few guys who can deep just about anyone deep, with his speed and leaping ability, as a rental.  Favre is certainly going to look to Randy often and don’t expect as many overthrows as Brady had.  Moss becomes as good a fantasy option as anyone.  Once Rice comes back, Vikings have one of the best receiving cores in the league with Moss, Rice, Harvin, and Shancoe.

Patriots

As far as the Patriots, this it a big picture move.  Do not count them out as they’ve done it without the #1 WR before but they had a much better D.  The trade leaves the Patriots with two first rounders, two second rounds, two thirds, and two fourths in the 2011 Draft.  They’ve done a very good job drafting over the years and with Randy disgruntled about a new contract you understand the move, they got good value for the former fourth round acquisition.  This year the Patriots will look for even more production out their tight ends especially Hernandez and Brandon Tate should replace Moss as the speedster on the outside.  With there is going to be a lot of questions about Tate’s ability to play on the outside, he does have the speed and the Patriots also have Julian Edelman who should see a lot more playing time.

Overall, this trade will certainly benefit the Vikings immediately and put them back in the contention. The Patriots add to a bright future and got rid of a distraction while remaining in contention. Win-Win-Win.

Fantasy Implications:

  • Brandon Tate: Solid pickup. Patriots will count as Tate as a major contributor.
  • Julian Edelman: Deepers leagues, the impressive second year players will see more playing time.
  • Visante Shancoe: yardage projection up and TD down.
  • Sidney Rice: questions arise about his health and how much he will produce in this offense.
