Fantasy Football – NFL Week 8 Recap: Targets, Touches, and Surprises

Sunday Surprises

Eli Manning: Wasn’t a surprise that he produced, but how his team played… Classic 2010 Giants football.  Ineffective running game + lazy defense = Eli throws a ton.  So much so that he went over 300 and had a decent fantasy day.  With Bradshaw banged up this could continue.

Christian Ponder: Displayed much improvement in his second straight.  Could be an option given the right matchup.

Beanie Wells:  Despite reports early in the week that said he would be out an extended period of time, Beanie carried the load versus the Ravens.

Bernard Scott: Had his one day in the sun with Benson suspended and did well despite a matchup that had above average difficulty.  No value now, but something to remember.

Javon Ringer: Got his opportunity and ran with it.  As you’ll see below, he also catch whatever was thrown at him.

Eric Decker: Returned to being the #1 WR and also scored a TD.

Doug Baldwin:  A surprise from the 2011 class, that has all the skills and game to be a solid player in the slot for years to come.

Becoming a fixture in the Northwest

Tasty Targets

  • Reggie Wayne-14, wasn’t looked at in the redzone and number inflated because they were trailing a lot.
  • Eddie Royal-13, encouraging considering Tebow’s limitations…could become that PPR dynamo once again.
  • Lance Moore: Always plays well in the Dome and StL was no different.  If OL issues linger, could find his role rejuvenated.
  • Javon Ringer-6 targets, over 100 combined yards.  Bruiser from Michigan State not wasting the moment.
  • Baldwin

Seizing the Moment

Disappointing

  • Marshall-Dropped balls have been ugly and still can’t find the end-zone.
  • Gaffney-Had good potential this week, but Redskins aren’t fantasy worthy with Beck and without Moss.
  • Fitzgerald-Kolb doesn’t seem to target him enough, doubled or not.
  • Harvin-Under-targetted by Ponder, don’t let the rushing TD fool you.
  • Nelson-Playing more outside which hurts his value.

    What the Faulk?!?

RB Watch: Touch Count

  • Mendenhall 16 vs. Redman: 8.
  • Faulk: 11, almost 3x the amount of snaps as BJGE (who had 5).  A lot to do with situation, Welker being covered well by Taylor and Gay did a fine job on Branch, but still Ridley is out of the picture for now as well as Woodhead.
  • Torain: 9 & Helu got virtually no run even when they were down and out.
  • Carter 11, looked better than stats say (had nice run called back for hold) and Brown took another TD.  Team is a mess.
  • Murray: 9 while Tanner saw little work.
  • Slaton: Despite failures in the redzone for the Texans, looked to be the new goalline back.
  • Javon Ringer was more productive than CJ2K yesterday.  No reason why we won’t have a committee here with Johnson unable to get on track and Tennessee with playoff aspirations.
  • Morris and Williams continued to split carries, but Morris was more productive and used as the goalline back.
  • Sproles 12 / PT 11 / Ivory 6

MNF: My boy Baldwin goes deep and goes up for the TD.  Looking good Chiefs!
